Our Dogs

DSS makes use of canine recruiters to scout for quality dogs with the right stuff.

Currently using Labrador Retrievers, a breed renown for their drive, "nose power" and temperament.

Kennel Master personally "interviews" all canine candidates and is chief instructor for all canine training.

Training.
Exclusive methods gleaned from the best techniques. (US Air Force Military Working Dog criteria & scientific detection canine research, Institute for Biological Detection Systems, Auburn University)

  • Phase 1 (30 to 50 hours)—obedience, socialization (good people skills), environmental (can climb stairs and airplanes), physical exercise & confidence course.
  • Phase 2 (20 to 30 hours)--Basic explosive odor detection (teaching the dog to recognize certain odors).
  • Phase 3 (30 to 50 hours)—advanced explosive odor detection (coaching the dog to locate the odors in different environments and locations)
  • Field Training (20 to 50 hours)—dog "puts it all together" under real field conditions handled by canine trainers.

Certification.
Our dogs are certified annually using Department of Defense standards as to detection accuracy in all types of environments and conditions.
